THE MECAREP 4 IN 1 MULTI AXLE BEARING SYSTEM
The system shown below features reducing adapters which can be made for various Diameters other than those described, to be used on silver steel axles.
The reason I use Silver steel is that there is no ‘lobate’. Lobate is the term used for the tendency of a supposedly ‘round’ centreless ground shaft to have a usually, uneven number of curved ‘flats’ around the circumference, similar to a 50 pence piece which makes it untrue and of inconsistent diameter over a length. Silver steel is accurately ground and ‘controlled’ therefore its ‘roundness’ and true diameter is maintained over the 13" lengths in which it is normally sold. Some Mild steel rod of specified diameter is not as accurate.
The bore in the main bearings is Ø 0.5". The fixed reducing collars are Ø 0.375", Ø 5/16" and Ø 6 mm for the Mecarep 236 system, and are secured by a grub screw which traps the collar only.
The final design as a set consists of 2 x Ø 1.5" fully machined Brass bearings with only 4 threaded holes on 1" PCD and 8 plain collars to eliminate washers and nuts for quicker and neater assembly.
A MULTI AXLE BALL RACE BEARING SYSTEM
A 10mm ID ball race x 3.5mm wide is fitted
into a bearing and three shouldered reducing adapters for Ø 5/16"
Ø 6mm System 236 or Ø 4.1 for standard axles.
The adapters are fitted with standard Meccano grub screws.
